A brief report from National champs;

TST members competing in the age group trophy race were Peter Taylor and Trevor Watts, both raced well in the early morning cold weather left over from the southerly ‘buster’ that tore the transition area setup apart the night before during registration. Peter was 9th in hi 60-64 age group in a time of 3.00.19 was great to see Peter back competing after his accident a few years ago. And Trevor came home in 18th in his 45-49 age group in a time of 2.24.

After the trophy race when the weather started to warm up, the under 19 draft legal race got underway, this race was an important for Cameron Todd and Josh Kenyon from TST as there was a qualifying spot for the World Age elite U19 champs NZ team. They had to be first kiwi across the line and be top ten overall, unfortunately both athletes did not meet this criteria, although both raced well, Cameron was third from the water, and remained in the front bike pack except for a small breakaway group in the last lap, however five other kiwis beat him over the line in the run, and he ended up 12th overall, 1 min 30 off the pace. Josh’s swim did not go as planned and he spent much of the bike by himself, but all credit to Josh in finishing strongly with a sub 19min run off the bike. Both Cameron and Josh will now turn their eyes to the national Secondary schools champs, and both are racing in the oldest U19 division next Thursday 26th March. Go to http://www.triathlon.org.nz/Article.aspx?ID=2303 for the results and to http://www.triathlon.org/news/article/vidal_hewitt_win_in_wellington/ here for some great pictures.

News just in from Chris Todd... (photo of Cam coming into finish)

Last night Cam competed at his third Stroke and stride this year and the penultimate race of the 2009/10 series, race # 7, involving a 750m swim and 5klm run, and again gapped all but incomparable Brent Foster in the swim. Cam lead around the first two buoys, and exited the water on the heels of Brent Foster, who had played a cat and mouse game on the swim back to the beach. They then ran together for approx 4.5klms of the run, before Cameron broke away to take the win, 3 from 3, and all over Brent Foster. His training buddy Sam Franklin who had drawn close, came home in third place. Go to the swimrun website for the race results and write up. This was a good result for Cameron, having been forced to pull out of the Takapuna Triathlon last Sunday with cramp.

Just to let you know that Cameron Todd has bounced back from his disappointing race at Canberra, to pick up his second 2XU stroke and stride victory last night at St Heliers beach, again a dual between him and perennial stroke and stride athlete Brent Foster.
